Frequently Asked Questions & Policies

Cancellation Policy + Refunds

We believe wholeheartedly that students of all learning backgrounds will enjoy and benefit from the Book Nook experience. However, if for any reason your little one does not adapt to a virtual learning environment please email us at virtual@booknooknyc.com to discuss refund options.

Make Up Policy

We believe that consistency is key when it comes to learning and love welcoming your little ones to Book Nook each week. However, we understand that your child may be unable to attend their regularly scheduled class due to illness or an unforeseen circumstance. For private classes, we will schedule a make-up based on student and teacher availability. For group classes, we will provide options for your child to join another session that week. If neither of these options are a possibility, you will receive a credit to be used for a future semester.

Frequently Asked Questions

Our virtual class times depend based on the age level. Lil Hoots, Early Hoots, Pre Hoots, and Grammar Workshop classes are all 45 minutes, once a week. Kinder Hoots, Big Hoots, Writing Workshops, and Book Clubs are 60 minutes, once a week.

Our tier-based program is designed for children of all ages. Lil Hoots is for children from 18 months to 30 months; Early Hoots is for children from 30 months to 42 months; Pre Hoots is for children from 42 months to 48 months; Kinder Hoots is for children from 48 months to 60 months; and Big Hoots is for children in Kindergarten to 3rd grade. If your child is in between tiers, we would be happy to chat with you to find a spot that fits their level best.

All of our Book Nook Enrichment Virtual Classes are taught live by an instructor each week. Our teachers work with the same students each week for consistency, so your child will always see a familiar face!

Yes. We will send over the curriculum for each tier in semester-based packets, and materials are available in your student’s dashboard. Your child will complete one theme-based packet per week, which will include all the worksheets necessary for class.

When you enroll in a session, we will immediately send over a Benchmark Assessment. This assessment will give you the opportunity to gauge your child’s reading level based on the Guided Reading Level scale. Once you have sent us your child’s initial reading level, we build the curriculum that best fits their needs and it is sent to you prior to the start of class.

Yes! We are happy to offer a free trial for any tier to ensure that your child enjoys and gets the most out of our program. You can sign up for a free trial through our Sawyer options, or reach out to virtual@booknooknyc.com for more information.

For additional information about each tier, please visit our Classes page.

Absolutely! For our group classes, we will send out weekly updates about what we learned in class that week. For 1:1 classes, you will receive monthly progress reports. All of our classes offer the option to chat with a teacher or our Virtual Program Director for more direct feedback.

We do our best to accommodate make-up classes. If your child is going to be absent, we ask that you please let us know as soon as possible so we can notify their teacher of the change. If your child is in a group class, we are happy to have them join another session in their age group that week. If your child is in a 1:1 class, our Virtual Program Director will reach out to schedule a make-up.

All of our instructors have a background in education and history working with children of all ages. In addition, the staff is trained in the Book Nook Method of instruction and our full literacy curriculum.

Of course! We are happy to accommodate any and all schedule changes to ensure your child is in a class that fits their schedule and academic level. If at any point you need to switch classes, you can reach out to virtual@booknooknyc.com.
