Book Club
Ages 5 – 12 Years
Thinking about Reading
The goal of Book Club is to facilitate independent reading and grow the “thinking about reading” skills taught to school age children. We offer multiple book clubs for students of all ages (beginning as early as 3 years old!) to introduce and incorporate materials that span all areas of reading. These classes invite students to understand a book, its characters, and the world of reading in a deeper, fully realized way. Our book clubs are 60 minutes, with a maximum of 5 students per session.
Individual skills:
- Group/shared reading
- Understanding story structure (plot, characters, setting, rising action, climax, falling action, problems, resolution, etc.)
- Critical thinking skills
- Making thought-out predictions
- Understanding character motives and roles
- Understanding figurative language and metaphor
- Discovering new genres and types of reading
